Alison Flowers, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist. Her undergraduate degree is from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, where she majored in Psychology and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2003. Dr. Flowers attended graduate school at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, an American Psychological Association accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology, and received a Master of Arts in 2006 and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2010.
Dr. Flowers’ training during her doctoral program and professional experience focused on the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents. She completed both her internship and fellowship at Applewood Centers, Inc., which is a community mental health center that specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents, and their families. Her internship and fellowship focused on providing evidence-based therapy to children and their families that were often multi-stressed and presented with a wide range of problems. Her placements during her internship and fellowship included public schools, a residential center, and outpatient offices. While placed in the public school setting, Dr. Flowers provided therapy as well as consultative services including classroom behavioral observations and assistance to teachers and staff in designing and implementing behavioral and emotional regulation strategies with students. Dr. Flowers was hired at Applewood Centers as the Assessment Supervisor after completing her fellowship and in this position she provided training to clinicians and pre-doctoral interns as well as continuing to provide therapy and assessment services to children and their families. She continues to be a consulting psychologist at Applewood Centers.
In addition to CBHW Dr. Flowers is a clinical psychologist and Behavioral Health Consultant at Mercy Health Physicians. At Mercy Health she provides therapy, assessment, and consultative services within primary care and pediatricians offices utilizing an integrated care model. Therapeutic interventions are primarily solution focused strategies, behavioral modification, CBT, and motivational interviewing. An important part of her job is consulting with, providing feedback, and developing integrated treatment plans with her primary care physician’s and their patients.
Dr. Flowers has extensive training and experience in treatment and assessment of anxiety, depression, ADHD, disruptive behavior, adjustment difficulties in childhood and adolescence, as well as providing parent skills training. While she enjoys working with children and adolescents and their families. She has specific interest/expertise in treating specific fears and worries, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), adjustment related difficulties, and sleep difficulties. Dr. Flowers loves working with children and helping them do their best. Her approach is cognitive behavioral and collaborative and she will work with you and your child to develop a treatment plan utilizing evidenced-based strategies that will best fit your child’s needs.
Dr. Flowers is originally from the suburbs of Boston, but has found her home in Cleveland. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outside, specifically running, enjoying the Metroparks, and skiing in the winter. She has played soccer since childhood and continues to play on a recreational team.
